In my twitter feed I get tweets from Well & Good, a lovely lifestyle website. Most of the time it truly reminds me that self care is important. A person like me who loves to care for everyone else sometimes forgets that self care is important. I don't have a ton of excess money and that's ok, I have what I need and I like what I have. But when I am in Trader Joes I treat myself to flowers. They are affordable and pretty. Today, after I went for blood work (another form of self care), I went to the local discount beauty supply store (Harmon.. never pay full price for cosmetics), I picked up a Rosey lip tint from Vaseline (1.79) and a pretty violet shadow from Maybelline, a part of their leather collection. My Dad used to make saddles and other cool leather goods so I was drawn to this product. Both make me feel lovely.
The elusive search for happiness. What makes you happy? For me, it is the simple things. I know so trite but so true. My cats, (4 rescue kitties and yes I am a kooky but sweet cat lady), music (listening to Laura Marling right now), painting, drawing, YOGA, healthy food.
Here is a happy heart soup recipe. kale, broccoli, carrots, peppers, eggplant, cherry tomatoes, low salt tomato paste, garlic, fresh herbs, quinoa, pinto or black beans. coat pan with grape seed oil. chop garlic and carrots finely. then put them in the pan. stir. add kale and cubed eggplant. stir add a little more grape seed oil. Boil water and add quinoa. then add low salt tomato paste and fresh herbs to pan. Before quinoa is fully cooked add the vegetables to the soup and beans (washed off to get rid of excess salt. Add a tiny pop of onion powder. Voial! a delightful happy heart soup. The simple recipe for gorgeous skin ~ cleanse with natural products, moisturize with coconut oil, use sunscreen, dry brush. Tone occasionally. Use masks (I like dead sea salt masks for exfoliating).
I recently decided to cut back on a few things so I can live the good life. One place I was able to make significant changes in was my beauty routine. My regiment consists of a sea salt and honey cleanser (morning and night), apple cider as an occasional toner, Coppertone for Faces sunscreen (applied every few hours), Coconut Oil for a moisturizer, Vaseline rose lip balm. I like my Maybelline Voluminous Mascara. L'Oreal liquid liner, Covergirl cream shadow in lilac and Cover Girl concealer. My cleanser and body scrubs are homemade! I call the line Semplice Pelle. My skin has never looked better. I am 46 but everyone thinks I am in my early 30s and I will take that compliment. Peace. |
